DIY Search Engine Optimization Expert

My name is Scott Coplen and I live in San Jose, California. I don't like calling myself an "expert." The word is simply a popular keyword at search engines when used with "SEO." I had to choose the name of my "About Me" page from either "Expert" or "Specialist." Now I am dealing with other people's idea that I am not humble. To me, being seen as special is worse than being a bragger (expert). Seems like there are many leaders of this world that will gladly share in spirit this new challenging image.

I own ThySEO.com and eighteen other web sites. This web site (all its pages) received 1091 non-paid search engine visits in the last 30 days, as of July 17, '10, according to Google Analytics. This site is the 4th most popular I own, in terms of organic engine hits.

I started my web sites, back in 2003. Since then, I have tested most of the popular online advertising methods. Most of my seven years of webmaster experience has been in the area of do-it-yourself SEO. Now, I am confident that ethical organic SEO is the best way to maximize a website's profits.

Over the last seven years, I found the power of the backlink as the main factor in improving organic rankings to generate traffic. Between 2005 and 2008 the web sites I maintained probably suffered from search engine algorithm penalties. Most of this, most likely, was unnatural link building on my part. Now, I understand that avoiding algorithm penalties is a key to permanent high rank.

Google, Yahoo, bing and ask.com are serious about doing whatever it takes to make their engine result pages relevant to keyword searches. Assigning algorithm penalties to sites that show proof of unethicalness helps achieve this goal. On the good side, I show that organic engines are forgiving in that they will boost your rankings after algorithm penalties are reduced.

To make high organic rank happen, as soon as possible, a webmaster should work, habitually, on only SEO priorities that follow engine guidelines. By simply following my ideas at Thy SEO Checklist, Work Priorities, and I Statements your site should do well within two years at Google and Yahoo. I have found that obtaining good bing (msn) search results comes within one year, using my ethical techniques.

I am currently unavailable to work on sites not mine, but I plan on updating this website for all webmasters as long as my sites are online. My Organic SEO testing is an ongoing basis.

At Google Analytics, to zero-in on your site's strongest keyword phrases: "Traffic Sources" > "Search Engines" > "non-paid" (this is optional) by "Show" in center > then a top engine. For more specific Visits, you can then click a top keyword phrase > then the "None" drop box under Site Usage, then Country/Territory and City.
Tip: When Visits are from your site's webmaster's City, you can subtract these from all of a keyword phrase's Visits. The reason for this subtraction is because a site's own webmaster should be its most frequent Visitor.
